Why do you think that Liesel's mother had to be taken from her and Liesel had to go to a new family?

Why do you think Markus Zusak made the street name "Himmel" meaning heaven?

What do you think happened to Liesel's birth mother since they could not get in contact with her?

In response to Brennan's first question, I have a feeling that Liesel's mother did something wrong and could not provide for her children any longer, however I am not sure, we may find out at the end, or we may never know.

In response to Kate's first question: I think that Liesel's mother was taken away and put in a concentration camp as a political prisoner. She could have died or gone very far away.

Why, on page 384, "Max, Hans, Rosa I cannot account for, but I know that Liesel Meminger was thinking that if the bombs ever landed on Himmel Street, not only did Max have less chance for survival than everyone else, but he would die completely alone," does it say that death cannot account for Max, Hans, and Rosa?

In response to Kate's second question: I think death is more interested in Liesel. Otherwise I don't have a clue about that. Maybe Liesel encountered more hardships than the normal person.

In response to Brennan's second question, I think that Zusak used it later in the book to in a way to almost put down the Allies when they bombed Himmel Street, but then again when deciding where to drop a bomb, I would not think that pilots would account for street names. Also, once Liesel moved in on that street, it was when she really learned about love, and we learn about love from God who is in Heaven.
